Sweet, crisp apples mixed with celery and raisins are delicious with a simple dressing.
You can chop the apples ahead of time and toss with a little water and lemon juice to keep them from browning.
The ingredients are simple: apples, celery, raisins, mayo, lemon juice, and sugar.
Choose sweet, crisp apples for the best results—I like Fuji apples best for salads because they are both sweet and crisp. When I can’t find them, I often use Gala apples as I did in this recipe; Gala apples aren’t as crisp as Fuji but they are sweet and delicious. Soften the raisins by covering them with hot water while you chop the apples, then drain them before adding them to the salad.
Mix your dressing ingredients before chopping. Miracle Whip is sweeter than mayonnaise and will result in a sweeter dressing, so if you use it be sure to taste as you add sugar. Mix it all together and chill for an hour before serving.

Apple Raisin Salad
- 5 apples, cored and chopped into bite sized pieces
- 1 cup raisins
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 stalks celery, finely chopped
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- Soak raisins in hot water to cover to soften for about 5 minutes, drain and dry on a paper towel. Combine apples, raisins, and celery in a bowl.
- In a separate bowl combine salad dressing, lemon juice, and sugar. Pour the dressing over the fruit mixture and stir.
- Refrigerate for about an hour to chill then serve.
